Shyamal Dutta Roy was born in Ranchi,Bihar in 1934. He was a founder member of the society of contemporary artists. His forte was the reinvention of watercolor as a medium. His watercolor introduced a new depth and intensity which was very different from the earlier generation of followers of Bengal school.
