THOTA VAIKUNTAM


Born in 1942 in Boorugupali, Andhrapradesh. He completed his diploma in painting at the college of Fine Arts and Architecture,Hyderabad in 1970 and subsequently went to study at the M.S. University in Baroda / His first solo show was held at the Kala Bhavan in Hyderabad, 1973 / He had many other solo shows and group shows in different parts of the world / Among his several honors are the National award for painting which he received in 1993 and the Biennale award from Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, in 1988-1989... Vaikuntam is known for his paintings of dark and voluptous Telengana women and greedy priests that include an interesting mix of tradition and colors / His career and work that has spanned over 30 years has been featured in a retrospective that was held in Delhi and London with a publication... His works are in the collection of art connoisseurs across the globe and major corporate houses...
